Eco-yards is a small, growing, eco-friendly residential landscaping company in Calgary, Alberta. We specialize in design and installation of low-maintenance, sustainable landscapes that are healthy for children, pets (and everyone!) and are colourful and beautiful year-round.
WORKING AT ECO-YARDS
The Eco-yards team is made up of people who care about, and respect, the earth. We love beautifying spaces for people and take pride in each task and job completed. We like working hard, getting dirty, and being a part of a team. We take direction well, and have an attention to detail that ensures each project is completed to the Eco-yards standard. Most importantly, we share a true sense of camaraderie and fun throughout the season.
The projects we take on are varied: we build rock rivers, paving stone and flagstone walkways, patios and retaining walls. We dig out sod, move soil and mulch, gravel and sand. We do a lot of planting! We also do some yard maintenance (mostly weeding and pruning) and apply compost tea to our clients’ yards 3 times per season (check out a video on that process here). We are doing more projects each year with a permaculture focus.
Design work is usually done from January through November with more hours required April through October. Typically we only work Monday to Friday, but Saturday work is occasionally required (once or twice a month) to meet clients (usually from April through October). Client visits are by Laureen, the Owner, and the Designer together and the concept of the design is developed together with Laureen. The Designer works independently most of the time from their own office, getting feedback from Laureen about the designs as they progress. When there is not enough design work, the designer works on crew or doing administrative support work.
Hours are flexible – part-time hours from October through February usually and then the role can be full or part-time depending on the abilities and desire of the Designer to do other Eco-yards work.
Training is provided in Eco-yards design methods and style. We use old school paper and pencil, although we are open to candidates with computer design experience.
Eco-yards is interested in recruiting and retaining people who will stay for years and help grow the company. We also offer a competitive health benefits package starting the second year with Eco-yards, and offer opportunities for growth, learning, and advancement.
